Its sister park next door, Big Basin, is home to some of the largest redwoods left on Earth. </span><span><br/></span></p> <p><span>There was a large mistake in the map reading, so what was meant to be a short 19 mile hike became over 24 miles. I ran out of food and water about 3/5th of the way, and I was told the last portion of the trail (descent from Chalk Mountain) was just a downhill slope … it was repeated ascent and descent for over 9 more miles because you had to climb over other peaks and ridges to reach the valley that led to Waddell Creek. </span></p> <p><span>I am proud I broke my last record.
