Anonymous: The 100% in Legend of Mana is a power bar to execute special skills. A character’s HP does increase as you level, with “layers” to it. I mean, instead of a single compressed bar, you get several layers of HP. I hope I made sense… ^^;

Ohh, okay. Makes sense. Yeah, I just use 100 hit points for everything. No levelling.

I was just testing to see how the colors looked. Going back and renovating a lot of GFX. Which is why I haven’t updated recently. I guess there is also a little numbers and letters crap that no one really wants to look it anyways.

I wonder how people are going to respond to the battle system because … I guess it is a little bit weird for a “J” RPG. I removed levels because grinding makes no sense in this game. The encounter system is a little bit like Grandia but the enemies are even sparser. In some ways, the “level” system kind of goes counter to the more “realistic” approach the game has. Also grinding would be incredibly difficult here because of the sparse enemies, and I am not a big fan of it to begin with. Doing this keeps the enemies still difficult no matter where you are in the game. Since the “realism” limits to the different kind of enemies I have … this is probably for the best.

This also solves another problem of party members leaving and joining you all the time. Phew.

As your progress, more classes opens up and gives you a wider range of options to choose from. As there is no levelling, all the skills in a class is already availible to you from the get-go, save for one special skill.

I was playing Legend of Mana awhile ago and I kind of thought the “%100” was interesting. I am not really sure how the mechanics worked in that game since I never got far, but I liked the idea of everyone having 100 hit points only. I thought about this awhile ago actually, but I never bothered with the idea because I though it was “too strange.” Though I realize that is a stupid mentality to have when a friend said something among the lines of: “Why replicate tropes and traditions if you might have a better idea that works for you?” So I went with it.

Finally settled down with a composer. This may not be a popular choice, but I prefer the electronic and crisp sounds from the PSX and SNES era … maybe it’s because I am an old man. I really liked her style, because there was more emphasis on melody. Sigh … She might do an individual Kickstarter to pay the tracks off, or I’ll have to pick up another job. Whatever it takes to get this done. I’m nuts.

Piedras Blancas (Elephant Seal Rookery), California (more local history here)

Named after the white rocks that hang around this shoreline, the place is primarily known for its old light house and the massive amount of elephant seals. They were kind of sparse this time of year, though I wouldn’t want to visit during mating season. I had a hard time telling if they were dead or alive. I think they are just lazy - I see some of them move and they only wobble maybe 4 steps before lying down again and repeating the process five minutes later.

I can’t blame them though, females can weigh up to 1,500 LB (680 KG) and males can weight 5,000 LB (2267 KG). These blokes were nearly killed off because of oils found in their fat.

I was working on a montage in the beginning where you see him grow from a child to an adult man alone in the wilderness.

Jeez, he became a beefcake. No, he’s not keeping the skirt. I kind of preferred having an adult man in his prime (physically 25 - 35) rather than a teenager. Maybe it’s just personal preference. I thought it was a funny contrast how he is a giant of 6’6” at 250 pounds (yeah, you know he was American designed) to his mental age ( “Why is that man hurting the lady?! O.O”).

Last night, I was unable to sleep. In fact, I haven’t been able to sleep much in almost two weeks. So I began to soberly hallucinate about a creature called “BOY COW.” It is a cow, yet a boy. Phew. I’ve been so tired. I’ve been dealing with the nitty gritty stuff I talked about a few posts down. There’s nothing to really show for it unless people like to look at word docs, excel spread sheets and a bunch of frames.

In towns not many NPCs walk around … to be honest, that’s because I was too poor to afford all of the frames. Though the alternatives are a lot more interesting - like a little girl feeding the birds, a woman milking a cow, a man raking some wheat. In some ways, it is a lot more realistic than walking around aimlessly.
